1. Mine the job description for keywords

Open the job ad and highlight every noun phrase under Responsibilities and Requirements. Nouns and noun phrases — Salesforce administration, stakeholder reporting, ISO 27001 — are what ATS systems weight most heavily. Make a list. You are about to map your CV onto it.

2. Rewrite your headline summary

Your top three lines are prime real estate. Replace the generic 'results-driven professional' summary with one that names the role, the seniority, and your two strongest matches to the posting. Example: 'Senior data analyst with 6 years in retail BI, specializing in SQL pipelines and stakeholder dashboards.' Specific beats clever.

3. Reorder bullet points by relevance, not chronology

Within each role, the most relevant bullet to the new job should sit first. If the posting cares about Python and you did Python only as a side project at your last job, that bullet jumps to the top of that role. Time order across roles stays the same; the bullets inside each role reshuffle.

4. Quantify everything you can

Numbers turn duties into achievements. 'Managed a sales team' becomes 'Managed a 9-person sales team, growing regional revenue 34% over 18 months.' If you do not know the exact number, give a defensible range. Tailoring is not lying — it is choosing which true facts you put forward.

5. Cut anything that does not earn its place

If a section, certification, or hobby does not strengthen your case for this specific role, remove it. Two crisp pages beat three diluted ones. A 2014 internship adds nothing to a 2026 senior application.
